Autumn Skies I
The drawback to Autumn Sailing Classes (which I think is what those little boats in the bottom right of the photo were doing) is that your class could be held while snow flakes are falling. The benefit, though, is a chance to see some great Autumnal Sky Colors

Watching for Waterspouts
There's an odd weather pattern (see the article here) involving the warm temperature of Lake Michigan and a slow moving low pressure weather system that caused a large number of waterspouts to form on Lake Michigan this past weekend. Here's the one I saw near South Haven. Michigan.

Wired Sunset
The sun sets on a hot day, perhaps giving the electric wires, surely humming as air conditioners are running full blast, a rest.

Fog Attack
Autumn in Chicago means the fog can attack at any moment. This attack came with at 15 degree drop in temperature!
There are usually more buildings
visible in the skyline.
What happened to Lake Shore Drive?
The fog was still rolling through
(rather quickly)
at sunset.

Wolf Lake Sunset
One more from Friday's sunset. This is leftover sunset color on Wolf Lake. Taken through the passenger side window created a cool blur of foliage in the foreground.

Sunset Competition
So after I commented about the sunsets and clouds on the east side of Lake Michigan, I guess Mother Nature was trying to show me that she could produce some interesting sunsets and cloud formations on the west side of Lake Michigan, too. This sunset and storm cloud was brought to you by yet another strong winded, sky-streaking lightning, cats-and-dogs raining storm that knocked down trees, flooded suburbs and generally created havoc in the Chicagoland area.

Another View
Same Friday night sunset as yesterday, but this one was taken a little earlier. It was so interesting to watch the colors change.

Storm-sponsored Sunset
Chicago got hit with some severe thunder storms on Friday night. I was on the other side of the lake. While the storms went south of us, the edges of the storm treated us to an amazing sunset.

As of 6:28am CDT today , it's officially summer. Happy Summer Solstice everyone!

Sun Lights
Yesterday's photo was of a building with artificial lighting. Last evening, though, the Amoco Building (or Aon Center or Standard Oil Building) was glowing with all natural sun(set) light.

Winter Sunset
I loved how the sunset turned the horizon and the smoke from the buildings a delicate shade of pink.

Red Sunset Green Sunset?
I happened to be home just before sunset yesterday and saw this green light in the window. I looked and realized it was the sun. Now, I've heard about the phenomena of a Green Flash at sunset, but I really thought it was at sunset - not as the sun was setting. I had never seen the green sun before and can only guess that people at the other end of the hall usually have their blinds closed.
So here is the first sunset of Autumn, tinted naturally. Well, not naturally, exactly - it is after all through several tinted windows -but, at least without software intervention.

Here is the sunset without the window filters.

Shadow Spotlight
A sunset from earlier this week cast a shadow up in the sky. I thought the gilded clouds were quite lovely, too.
