Chicago gets a lot of tourists. This fine family, resting on one of the benches along the Lakefront Path, probably decided to visit our fair city to escape the snow and cold temperatures from their native Arctic home.
Time, dirt, sand, and, now, rising temperatures have created some odd little ice sculptures along the lakefront. (This almost doesn't look like ice anymore.) This little lopsided heart was formed - briefly - near Fullerton Avenue. By the time I walked back to this area, about fifteen minutes later, the front section had collapsed.
We don't see igloos around here too often. But some people clearly used last week's snow storm to their advantage and built this one in their front yard.
Chicago is holding a Snow Days Festival, which includes dog sled races, snowboarding demonstrations, and a snow sculpture competition. (They made the snow blocks up before this week's February Thaw and protected them from the sun with large cooling blankets.)
These pictures are of a sculpture called Palm Trees by "Team Michigan". The far left one is from Friday. The nearer one is from Saturday.
I like swooping owl and the pun in the name. I have a few more snow sculpture pictures I'll post over the next few days.
