April Theme Day: The Color Red

Today is Theme Day on City Daily Photo. This month's theme, voted on by City Daily Photo members is The Color Red. I discovered that Chicago has a number of red icons.

Bell Weather

I've seen this bell and the clock/temperature display a thousand times (maybe more). But, until today, I never noticed that there was the little weather change display on it as well. In this case, the temperature was getting colder. I can't wait until the "Warmer" light starts coming on.

Chicago Fire Memorial

The corner of DeKoven and Jefferson, in the Near West Side Neighborhood, is the legendary site of the start of the Chicago Fire of 1871. The Chicago Fire Department Training Academy stands there, now, as well as a monument entitled Pillar of Fire.

The sculpture was designed by Egon Weiner, an artist and former professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and completed in 1961. It was designated a Chicago Landmark in 1971.
