For the Record

While I was waiting to take yesterday's photo, I noticed that people were walking around the back of the statue and surreptitiously looking up. Well they THOUGHT they were doing this surreptitiously.

So, for the record: Yes, she is wearing undergarments. This is Chicago, not Hollywood. And she's Marilyn, not Britney.

Heels and Subway Gratings

When I wear heals and walk over a subway grate, I get stuck. But this is Marilyn, after all.

New Year, New Statue

A new monument was put up recently in Pioneer Court on Michigan Avenue. This one, shown below, honors Jean-Baptiste Pointe DuSable. DuSable opened the first trading post in the area (in the 1770s) and is recognized as the founder of Chicago. According to the monument, his home was located in the area. (Also in the area is the marina that is named after him.)

All Music All Summer

Free outdoor concerts are everywhere in Chicago in the Summer. They don't have them in the winter because it's hard to play the guitar when the strings are covered with ice.

This is a band called Better Than Ezra. This was the first of three concerts in a series that will be held at Pioneer Court and is part of an effort to collect donations for the Greater Chicago Food Depository.

Reflections in a Miniature Bean

Many people take pictures of the skyline reflecting in Cloud Gate (aka The Bean) in Millenium Park.

This weekend I stumbled upon another source for skyline reflections.

I know I've passed by this reflecting ball at the far east end of Pioneer Court a number of times but never noticed that it reflected the buildings around it. There is a possibility that the sun's angle at this time of year turns it into a mirror. Perhaps you don't get any reflections when the sun is higher in the sky during Spring, Summer, and Fall.
