Harrison Haiku

I've mentioned before that most of the CTA el stations have some type of public art installation. At the Harrison Stop on the Red Line, this art is in the form of haikus written by students in Columbia College's Creative Writing Poetry program and students from the nearby Jones College Prep School.

This particular haiku seems to indicate that the Cubs vs. Sox is not the only North Side/South Side rivalry in Chicago. (The Clark and Lake stop is on the North Side; the Harrison stop is on the South Side.)

It's one of those things ...

... you WANT to know why there are handcuffs on the signpost ... but maybe not.

Ramp-a-liciously Spring

OK. Forget what the weather is like, now it is really Spring because Ramps are in season. Ramps are a wonderfully earthy cross between garlic and an onion and are the first green edible item to emerge after the long dark winter days of root vegetables (really, how many ways can you make potatoes, carrots, and onions). Seasonal eaters REJOICE!

Ramps may also be responsible for the name of this city. You see, the Potawatami word for wild onion (also skunk, but we choose to ignore that translation) is Checagou. Apparently the area had a lively crop of ramps "back in the day", giving the area a distinctive fragrance.

Angles and Patterns

Lots of angles, curves and patterns in this little section of a building on Wells Street.

Balcony Illusion

The Spring sun (yea!!) gave the illusion of larger balconies on this Near North Side building.
